We have been movin’

August 31st we moved from Kenosha up the coast to Milwaukee, where we spent two nights. The first evening we walked thru clouds of dragon flies, and up the HILL to the restaurant district and had dinner a quaint Italian restaurant. The next day we walked along the water front to see a really cool museum, Ok it was a children’s museum but worth the price of admission. From there we had lunch of Brats (it is Wisconsin after all) at the Veterans Beer Garden next to the art museum with wings that open and close.

Sept 2 we moved down the coast to Racine for one night. Really cool town that deserved more time than we allotted to it. We walked thru town and found a wonderful small bakery, and watched the draw bridges open and close. I also took a long row thru the harbor and up the river a mile or two. We met another Looper couple while walking downtown and had dinner with them on the second floor balcony of the restaurant overlooking the harbor. An hour in the hot tub finished the day. Weather dictated a move the next day so off to Waukegan we went.

Sept 3 we took advantage of flat water on Lake Michigan to move to Waukegan to be closer to Chicago where we had reservations for Monday and Tuesday night. Monday the weather was not going to be great but this got us fairly close. Waukegan was so excited we came to visit that they put on an hour long fireworks display to celebrate our arrival. The people we met on the docks were very friendly, and we enjoyed the fireworks with them. Saturday explored the waterfront, taking a long walk on the pier and had hot dogs on the boardwalk. Sunday we walked to the downtown area and had dinner at a Mexican restaurant, and picked up a few things at the Ace Hardware.

Sept 5. Monday we moved down to Belmont Harbor on the north side of Chicago. A very nice marina in an area of Chicago we had never seen before. The trip down was not one of our most enjoyable but we were safe but not comfortable. On arrival we were greeted by another Nordic Tug Owner and his family. We had a wonderful couple of hours with them before they had to head home for work and school the next day. That evening we road our bikes into the city and found a Brazilian restaurant for dinner. Martha was like a kid in a candy store seeing all the Brazilian treats they had there. Tuesday I was back on the bike and road to the West Marine store to get a few boat parts. The afternoon was spent rowing and walking on the waterfront. The Chicago water front is really amazing. Miles of walk/run trails, bike trails, parks for archery, golf, soccer, football, baseball, multiple marinas, a zoo and more. Another area to visit again and spend more time.
